Turbocharger

A turbocharger uses the engine's own exhaust gas, not a belt or gear off the crankshaft, to spin a compressor that force-feeds air into the cylinders — which is why turbocharger condition shows up first in fuel consumption and exhaust temperature, before anything else on the engine changes.
