How the data is built
Equipment data comes from manufacturer datasheets and catalogues, public type-approval registers (DNV, UK MCA, USCG), supplier and shipyard documents, and the enquiries our own service desk handles.
Parsers, not guesses
Values are read from documents with format-specific parsers written per manufacturer. We do not let a language model guess technical values. Where a document could not be read reliably, the field stays empty rather than estimated.
Status of a value
Every value on a model page is one of two things: it carries its source, or it is marked “not yet checked by a person”.
What “family” means here
Models that share a manufacturer and a type series are grouped as a family. Family pages compare variants side by side where the documents allow it.
Images
Where an image is shown, it is a product or nameplate image attributed to its source. We do not use stock photography for equipment.
Updates
A page’s date changes only when its content changes, not when the database is reorganised.
