Ein Rauchgas-Inertgaserzeuger bezieht sein Inertgas aus dem Kesselabzug des Schiffs, statt Brennstoff in einer eigenen Brennkammer zu verfeuern: Er wäscht und kühlt das Kesselrauchgas auf einen für Ladetanks sicheren Sauerstoffgehalt herunter — womit Kesselverfügbarkeit und Rauchgasqualität die begrenzenden Faktoren sind statt der Brennstoffversorgung eines separaten Brenners.
