MOPX Series
The MOPX series is the clarifier counterpart to the MAPX purifier series from Alfa Laval. It operates in single-phase mode (no water interface) and is therefore primarily designed for lube oil cleaning. On vessels with 2-stroke main engines often employed as a dedicated lube oil separator while the MAPX runs in parallel as fuel oil purifier. Production discontinued approximately 2005, successor is the universal ALCAP S series, which can automatically switch between both modes.

Common failures & inspection points
Paring disc, top disc, mud ports check for dull spots/wash-out; erosion depth >0.2 mm (bowl/cap) or >0.5 mm (other) = replacement.
Leaks at cover/bolted joints/mud outlet; gasket rings (EPDM) change every 6000–8000 h, original parts only.
Check vibration/noise; bearings change in pairs every 12000–16000 h, lubricate correctly; do not increase throughput during vibration.
Belts every 3000 h (tension per manufacturer), cracks/wear; coupling check for axial play (>0.5 mm = fault), corrosion.
Monitor current consumption nominal/actual; clean bowl during shutdown; check pre-filtration + lubrication; limit sludge volume.

Service & Maintenance
Bowl overhaul every 4,000-6,000 hrs. Clarifier mode requires no gravity disc — water seal not needed. Back-pressure check monthly. Sludge tank level monitoring daily.
