GBS 500 Series

Shell-and-Tube Heat Exchanger · Heat Exchangers

Class-certified type (DNV register) · technical data sheet not yet verified

GEA GBS 500 Series is a shell-and-tube heat exchanger. It is normally installed in an engine-room cooling, heating or process system with one medium routed through tubes and the other around the tube bundle inside the shell. Its purpose is to transfer heat between separated fluid circuits while providing a robust pressure-containing arrangement suitable for marine service. Compared with plate exchangers, the shell-and-tube arrangement uses a tubular heat-transfer surface and may allow mechanical tube-side cleaning depending on construction. The exact model designation identifies shell, bundle and connection configuration; tube material, surface area and duty must be confirmed from manufacturer documentation.

Service

Service notes.

What our service work and the manufacturer documentation say about keeping this model running.

Trend temperatures and pressure drop and inspect accessible covers, tube sheets and connections for leakage. Clean the tube side using a method suitable for the deposits and tube material. Pressure-test or leak-test the circuits when cross-contamination is suspected, following the approved procedure. Inspect sacrificial protection where fitted and check for erosion at inlets and tube ends. Ensure connected piping is independently supported. Refer to manufacturer documentation for exact test pressure, tube-plugging limits and acceptance criteria.

Spare parts notes

Keep cover gaskets, O-rings or seals, sacrificial anodes where fitted and approved tube-plugging or repair materials if permitted by the manufacturer and class. For critical equipment, spare covers or tube-bundle components may be held ashore. Confirm exact material and dimensions from the unit documentation.

Free of charge — send us your request for GEA equipment. Our team checks it and replies by e-mail.

Makers and authorised dealers rarely quote marine equipment without the vessel. With these details we can check availability and prices faster; without them we may have to ask first, which can cost a few days. If you cannot share the vessel, a photo of the equipment’s rating plate does the same job — attach it below or send it as a reply to our confirmation e-mail.
