Wärtsilä exhaust gas cleaning. Wärtsilä scrubbers are marine exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCS) that cut SOx emissions by up to 98 per cent, using seawater spray or closed-loop circuits with caustic soda. They can run in open-loop mode, discharging seawater to sea after neutralisation, in closed-loop mode, recirculating with alkali where water alkalinity is low, or in hybrid mode.
