RESIBLOC Marine 630kVA 3300/400V

Marine Transformer (Dry/Cast-Resin) · Transformers

Class-certified type (DNV register) · technical data sheet not yet verified

ABB marine transformers. ABB, now Hitachi Energy, builds transformers specifically for marine use, certified by the classification societies (CCS, ABS, BV, DNV GL, LR, KR, NK, RINA). Marine transformers have to meet requirements for reduced noise and vibration, restricted installation space, dedicated water cooling and shipboard safety.

Inspector Detail

Common issues

  • Winding surface contamination (dust, salt) reducing creepage distance and insulation resistance
  • Partial discharge/tracking on the resin surface from humidity and airborne contaminants
  • Overheating from blocked ventilation openings or high ambient engine-room temperature
  • Loose terminations or busbar connections causing hot spots
  • Cracking of the cast-resin coil surface from repeated thermal cycling over time
  • Cooling fan failure (if the forced-air option is fitted) reducing rated capacity

Inspection checklist

  • Measure insulation resistance winding-to-winding and winding-to-earth
  • Visually inspect the resin coil surface for cracks, tracking marks or contamination
  • Check winding temperature via the built-in RTD/PTC sensors and verify alarm/trip settings
  • Clean ventilation louvres/openings and confirm airflow is unobstructed
  • Carry out a thermographic (infrared) survey of terminations and busbar connections under load
  • Verify tap-changer links (if fitted) are correctly set and tight
  • Check earthing connections and IP23 enclosure integrity (covers, gland seals)
  • Confirm cooling fans (if the AF-rated variant is fitted) operate and alarm correctly on failure

Service intervals

Insulation resistance testannually
Visual/thermal inspectionannually, or per class survey cycle
Cleaning of windings and ventilation pathsannually, more often in dusty or salt-laden engine room air
Connection torque checkat each annual inspection

Typical wear limits

Insulation resistancegeneral dry-type transformer practice is to investigate any reading trending sharply down from the commissioning baseline, or falling below roughly the order of 1 MOhm per kV of rated voltage - confirm against ABB's acceptance criteria and the classification society's guidance rather than a fixed pass/fail number

Ranges are typical for this design class. Always confirm against the manufacturer documentation for your serial number.

Critical spares

  • RTD/PTC temperature sensor set
  • Cooling fans (forced-air variant only)
  • Termination/connection hardware (bolts, lugs - standard items, not transformer-specific)

Safety

  • High-voltage primary side (3300 V) - lockout/tagout and verify dead before any access
  • Residual charge can remain on the cast-resin surface after de-energising - allow discharge time per maker procedure
  • Hot surfaces during and shortly after operation near cooling openings
  • Arc-flash hazard during live thermographic survey or connection checks - maintain safe working distance and PPE per the ship's electrical safety procedure

Class survey

Transformers serving essential/critical services normally fall within Continuous Survey Machinery scope. Class wants insulation resistance test records, thermographic survey reports where taken, and confirmation that temperature protection/alarm devices are tested and operative at each periodical survey. The winding itself is not a field-replaceable spare - a winding fault ordinarily means transformer renewal, not repair.

Estimated lifetime: Cast-resin dry-type marine transformers of this class are typically designed for 25-30+ years of continuous service under correct loading and environmental conditions, rather than being rated by running hours - confirm against ABB's design life documentation for the RESIBLOC Marine series.

Free of charge — send us your request for ABB Marine equipment. Our team checks it and replies by e-mail.

Makers and authorised dealers rarely quote marine equipment without the vessel. With these details we can check availability and prices faster; without them we may have to ask first, which can cost a few days. If you cannot share the vessel, a photo of the equipment’s rating plate does the same job — attach it below or send it as a reply to our confirmation e-mail.

Frequently asked

Three things people ask first.

Is this model's data free?

Yes. Specifications, documents and service notes for this model are readable without an account. An account adds saved searches and requests, nothing is taken away.

Can you find a part for this exact model?

Yes. Tell us the manufacturer, the model and what you need — a person reads every request and replies by e-mail.

The specifications look wrong — what now?

Send us the nameplate or the correct value. We check it against the manufacturer datasheet or class-society record and update the page.
