The ZF W7000 is a high‑power single‑reduction marine propulsion gearbox delivering up to 7 000 kW, converting engine speed of 1800 rpm to a propeller speed around 720 rpm (ratio 2.5:1). As a Reduction Gear, it is normally installed between a propulsion engine or motor and the shaft line, reducing or adapting rotational speed and transmitting torque to the propeller. In that role, its primary purpose is to match prime-mover speed and torque to the propulsion shaft while providing the required clutching or reduction arrangement. Single-stage, multi-stage and epicyclic marine gearboxes differ in gear geometry and layout, but all depend on alignment, tooth contact, bearings and clean pressurized lubrication.
