Inspection checklist

• Visual check of panel surface for damage, denting or corrosion
• Check condition of joints and seams between panels
• Verify every penetration through the boundary is properly fire-stopped
• Check certification/type-approval label is present, legible and matches the fire control plan
• Check for unauthorized openings or modifications
• Confirm no combustible material is fixed directly to or stored against the boundary

Safety

• A compromised fire boundary can allow fire and smoke to spread between compartments - any penetration must be sealed with an approved system before the ship returns to service
• Hot work near or on an A-60 boundary requires a fire watch and permit
• Mineral wool insulation inside the panel can irritate skin and airways if disturbed - use appropriate PPE

Class survey

Surveyors check that structural fire protection boundaries match the approved fire control plan, that penetrations are properly sealed, and that no unauthorized openings have been made since the last survey; A-60 rating requires the boundary to withstand the standard fire test for 60 minutes without exceeding the temperature rise limit on the unexposed side
