Class B-15 bulkhead - LOLAMAT Wall W25 LF B15
The LOLAMAT Wall W25 LF B15 is a KAEFER Schiffsausbau GmbH marine bulkhead system intended to form a B-15 class interior division when installed as approved. It is used inside accommodation and service areas rather than as a structural hull bulkhead. The system combines lightweight interior panels, supporting structure and approved joints or edge details so that the complete assembly provides the required fire-separation performance. Its function differs from an A-class bulkhead because the B-class division is an interior fire boundary with a different approved construction and fire-resistance role. Doors, penetrations, cable transits and interfaces with ceilings or decks must preserve the certified arrangement. Cosmetic wall finishes do not replace the need for the underlying panel and joint construction to remain intact. Any dimensional or material variation from the approved W25 LF B15 system should be checked against the KAEFER approval documentation before repair or alteration.

Common issues
- Surface damage (impact, delamination) exposing the core insulation material
- Compromised penetrations (cable/pipe) where fire-stopping seals have degraded or were improperly reinstated after modification
- Corrosion or damage to the panel's supporting steel framework
- Loss of fire-rating documentation/certification traceability during refits
- Water staining behind the panel indicating condensation or leaks affecting core integrity
Inspection checklist
- Visual inspection for surface damage, delamination or panel deformation
- Check condition of all cable/pipe penetrations and fire-stop seals for gaps or degradation
- Verify doors/hatches within the bulkhead maintain the rated fire integrity
- Check for unauthorized modifications (added penetrations, removed panels) since the last survey
- Confirm fire-rating labels/certification plates are present and legible
- Check the supporting frame and fixings for corrosion
Service intervals
| Fire division visual inspection | typically at each annual survey |
| Penetration/fire-stop seal check after hot work or refit | each time the division is affected |
Critical spares
- Matching fire-rated replacement panel sections
- Certified fire-stop sealant/collars for penetrations
- Panel fixing hardware
Safety
- Any unauthorized penetration or damaged seal breaches the fire division and can allow fire/smoke spread between compartments
- Repairs must use materials certified to the same fire class - substituting uncertified material invalidates the division's rating
- Hot work on or near B-class panels requires a fire watch, as core materials can be heat-sensitive even though the finished assembly is fire-rated
Class survey
B-class divisions are checked at survey for physical integrity, correct penetration sealing, and that no unauthorized modifications have compromised the certified fire rating; repairs or alterations typically require materials with matching or better class type approval to preserve the division's certificate.

Common failures & inspection points
Service & Maintenance
Inspect the bulkhead as part of accommodation and passive-fire-protection rounds, focusing on joints, edges, penetrations, impact damage and signs of moisture. Verify that later cable and pipe work has been properly fire-stopped and documented. Doors or hatches installed in the division should retain their own required rating and closing function. Repairs should reproduce the approved KAEFER construction rather than merely restore appearance. Panel composition, fixing pattern, joint detail and permitted repair dimensions must be taken from the approval and manufacturer documentation for the exact system.
