The Alfa Laval S.p.A. AC230 is a brazed plate heat exchanger in the Alfa Laval AC family for compact heating, cooling and refrigeration duties. It consists of a sealed plate pack in which corrugated metal plates create alternating flow channels for the two media while brazed joints provide structural integrity and separation between the circuits. On board a vessel, units of this type can be installed in refrigeration plants, air-conditioning systems, chillers, heat pumps, oil or water cooling circuits and other packaged thermal systems. In refrigerant service, the selected unit may operate as an evaporator, condenser, economizer or subcooler depending on the system design. The AC230 designation identifies a specific size and plate geometry within the Alfa Laval AC range, and neighbouring models provide different thermal and hydraulic selections. Because the plate pack is permanently brazed and is not routinely opened like a gasketed plate heat exchanger, fluid cleanliness, correct flow conditions and suitable chemical cleaning practice are especially important.

Replacement Parts

For critical duties, a complete replacement brazed plate heat exchanger may be more practical than internal spare parts because the plate pack is normally not dismantled. Useful associated spares include connection seals where applicable, strainers or strainer elements, temperature and pressure sensors, control-valve service parts and refrigeration-system control components.
