The Alfa Laval S.p.A. MMB-505-HFO-Purifier is a compact solids-retaining disc-stack separator system configured for heavy fuel oil purification. It is normally installed in the engine-room fuel treatment plant between dirty-fuel storage or settling arrangements and the clean-fuel/service side. Its purpose is to use centrifugal separation to remove free water and suspended solids from the fuel before it reaches downstream fuel-system equipment. Heavy fuel oil normally requires suitable conditioning and heating before separation, while the exact inlet condition must follow the manufacturer documentation for the installed machine. Inspect the bowl, disc stack, sludge space and all wetted passages for heavy deposits, erosion, corrosion and mechanical damage. Verify the purifier-specific bowl arrangement and all interface-setting components after every major opening. Check fuel preheating, feed stability, water outlet behaviour and clean-oil quality during operation. Inspect spindle, bearings, drive train, seals and any operating-water or discharge mechanism fitted to the exact specification. Use the manufacturer manual for exact assembly sequence, wear limits, tightening values, process settings and service intervals.
Carry the manufacturer-specified service kit for the exact separator serial number, including routine seals and O-rings. Depending on the installed design and vessel redundancy, useful spares can include bearings, drive components, bowl seals, operating-water valve parts and other specified wear items.
