This is a marine diesel engine, designed for demanding applications requiring robust power output. The MTU 8V396-GS-50Hz delivers 1040 kW of power at 1500 rpm, fueled by Marine Diesel Oil (MDO). It features a V-configuration with 8 cylinders, a bore of 165 mm and a stroke of 185 mm. The engine is turbocharged and aftercooled, employing a direct injection fuel system with Bosch high-pressure injectors. The 8V396-GS-50Hz generates 988 kW of power when used in a generator set configuration, with a voltage output of 1235 kVA. It is designed to operate at a frequency of 50 Hz. MTU discontinued production of this model, but overhaul and remanufacturing services are still available.
