Common issues

Inspection checklist
- Review alarm and event log since the last inspection for repeat or unacknowledged alarms
- Force a redundancy switchover (server, network) and confirm bumpless transfer
- Verify I/O signal readings against an independent instrument at a few sample points
- Test UPS backup by simulating loss of main power
- Check network switch status lights and cabling for damage or poor termination
- Confirm software/firmware revision matches the vessel's approved configuration record
- Check cabinet cooling fans and filters
- Verify operator login/permission levels match the approved access list

Safety

Class survey
Integrated automation/alarm-monitoring systems supporting periodically unmanned machinery space (UMS) notation are tested annually, including alarm response times, redundancy changeover and backup power.
