Intermediate Bearing · Shaft Line Equipment
The PM IB-100 is an intermediate bearing from Pacific Marine that provides radial support for a 100 mm shaft in the propulsion line, positioned between the main and thrust bearings. As an Intermediate Bearing, it is normally installed along the intermediate propulsion shaft between the main engine or gearbox and the stern tube. In that role, its primary purpose is to support the shaft line radially and maintain the designed shaft alignment between major propulsion components. Unlike the stern-tube bearing, an intermediate bearing is located inside the hull and is readily observable during operation, making temperature, oil condition and alignment especially useful condition indicators. For exact ratings, dimensions, settings, capacities, materials and variant-specific limits, refer to the manufacturer documentation for the exact figure.
What our service work and the manufacturer documentation say about keeping this model running.
Inspect lubrication, bearing temperature, oil condition, shaft position, foundation and holding-down arrangements. Look for edge loading, fretting, abnormal vibration and changes after docking or propulsion work. Verify that oil supply and cooling arrangements remain clear. Refer to the manufacturer and class documentation for the exact figure for alignment, clearance and temperature limits.
Carry approved bearing-shell or pad components where practical, lubrication-system filters and seals, temperature sensors and gaskets for the installed bearing.
