The Wärtsilä Enviroguard 1000 mm is a high‑capacity lip shaft seal designed for 1000 mm diameter shafts, providing low leakage and reliable protection of bearings in large marine propulsion systems. As a Shaft Seal, it is normally installed at the inboard or outboard end of the stern tube around the propulsion shaft where the shaft passes between the hull and surrounding water or lubricating-oil system. In that role, its primary purpose is to control seawater ingress and lubricating-oil leakage while allowing the shaft to rotate.
