Common failures & inspection points

Zahnflankenverschleiß (Pittingbildung, Spalling)

Visual inspection with endoscope/borescope after removal of inspection floor covers (port side, standard 2 pieces). Check for discoloration, scratches and spalling of tooth flanks. Superficial pitting can indicate accelerated failure.

Bearing damage (discoloration, wear, abnormal noise)

Rolling bearings inspect visually with endoscope camera (in particular PTO shaft and countershaft). Watch for discoloration on outer ring (thermal damage), scratches or surface roughness defects on rolling elements. Scan bearing housings with stethoscope or ultrasonic detector: abnormal noise (grinding, clicking, squealing) indicates wear.

Ölzustand (Kontamination, Viskosität, Verbrennungsspuren)

Every 6 months take oil sample and analyze laboratory-geometrically. Visual inspection: oil color (dark = abnormal), particles or combustion traces, water ingress (turbidity). Perform oil change with filter element replacement. First time after 200 operating hours, then every 2000 hours or 6 months.

Hydraulic coupling (wear, leakage, pressure loss)

Check operating pressure (21–25 bar standard). Inspect disc chatter for wear, contamination and functionality. Check coupling piston, return springs, O-rings and pressure valve. In case of overhaul replace disc chatter, retainer ring sets and springs.

Shaft deflection and bearing load (run-out deviation)

Check shafts with runout gauge for deflection (target value is model-specific). Check bearing seats for wear or damage. Inspect shaft shoulders and fit surfaces. In case of overhaul check shafts for scratches/cracks with surface roughness gauge (Reintjes manufacture: pinion and reduction shafts are crack-tested/stress-relieved).

Housing tightness and wear (leakage, corrosion)

External inspections: check aluminum or steel housing for oil leakage, corrosion and mechanical damage. Check inspection floor covers and O-rings for wear. Check oil level at sight glass (should be between min/max). Check shaft seal ring locations and wear rings for roughness and scratches.
