MANTA 700
MANTA 700 by FJORD d.o.o... DNV RCD certificate 88011323.
Inspector Detail
▸
Common issues
- Brake band/lining wear reducing holding capacity below rated load
- Gearbox oil leaks or contamination
- Wear grooves or scoring on the rope/warping drum surface
- Motor or hydraulic overload trips from mooring line overload or a seized drum bearing
- Corrosion of deck mounting bolts and base in exposed weather locations
- Faults in the local/remote control system
Inspection checklist
- Function-test under load (no-load, and rated load where practicable) at the planned maintenance interval
- Check brake holding capacity and adjustment
- Check gearbox oil level and condition
- Check mounting bolts and base for corrosion or looseness
- Check electrical/hydraulic control functions including emergency stop
- Visual check of the drum/warping surface for wear, cracks, or sharp edges that could damage mooring lines
- Test overload protection trip function
Service intervals
| Gearbox oil check | per manufacturer manual, commonly every 3-6 months; sample or change annually or per running hours |
| Brake adjustment/inspection | every 6-12 months or per manufacturer schedule |
| Full function/load test | annually, aligned with class periodical survey of mooring equipment |
| Grease bearings and pins | per manufacturer lubrication schedule, commonly monthly to quarterly depending on service |
Critical spares
- Brake linings/pads
- Gearbox oil seals
- Motor or hydraulic motor spares
- Drum bearings
- Control station components (push-buttons, limit switches)
Safety
- Crush and entanglement hazard at the rotating drum and rope - keep hands and loose clothing clear and follow proper mooring line handling procedures
- Snap-back zones exist if a rope or wire fails under tension - this must be covered in the mooring safety briefing
- Electrical or hydraulic isolation is required before maintenance work on the unit
- Brake failure under load is a major hazard - never exceed the rated line pull/SWL
Class survey
Class periodical surveys of mooring/anchor handling equipment check safe working load marking, brake holding performance, and general mechanical condition; SWL and test certificates for the capstan should be retained onboard and cross-checked at survey.
