Common issues

• Gelcoat crazing or osmotic blistering on GRP hulls from prolonged water immersion
• Corrosion of metal fittings, fasteners and steering/control linkages in the marine environment
• Wear or stiffening of steering cable or hydraulic steering components from lack of lubrication
• Deterioration of rubber seals (hull-deck joint, hatches, through-hull fittings) leading to water ingress
• Battery and electrical connection corrosion from a damp bilge environment
• Safety equipment (life jackets, flares, fire extinguishers) reaching expiry without renewal
• Fuel system degradation - hose hardening or tank corrosion - on craft with permanently installed tanks

Inspection checklist

• Confirm the RCD/CE plate and certificate details match the craft's actual configuration
• Check the hull for cracks, blistering or impact damage above and below the waterline
• Verify all safety equipment (flares, life jackets, fire extinguisher, bilge pump/alarm) is in date and functional
• Check the steering and control system for play, corrosion or fluid leaks
• Inspect through-hull fittings and seacocks for corrosion and correct operation
• Check bilge pump/bilge alarm function
• Verify the fuel system for leaks, secure hose clamps and correct tank venting
• Check navigation lights and electrical wiring for corrosion or insulation damage

• Bilge pump unit
• Steering cable, or hydraulic steering hose/ram matched to the installed system
• Through-hull fitting/seacock in the correct size and material for the hull
• Safety equipment (flares, extinguisher, life jackets) - renew on expiry rather than repair
• Navigation light units

Safety

• Confirm the craft's RCD design category matches the actual sea area of intended operation - operating beyond the certified category is a safety risk
• Fuel system integrity (leaks, ventilation) is critical on craft with inboard/outboard tanks, to avoid explosion risk
• Life-saving equipment must be in date and correctly stowed and accessible
• Electrical faults in a damp bilge environment present fire and shock risk if not properly protected

Class survey

This is a small craft covered under the EU Recreational Craft Directive rather than full classification; verify the DNV RCD certificate (RCDA100001RY) remains current and matches the craft's actual configuration and equipment fit before relying on it for compliance.
