Cargo Basket
Cargo Basket by MKAP Container Sdn Bhd is a cargo basket intended to be handled as certified lifting equipment in marine or offshore cargo operations. It is used between the crane hook and the load, or forms the load-carrying structure itself, depending on the installed arrangement. Repeated lifting exposes the item to dynamic loading, impact, corrosion and wear at pins, pad eyes, welds and contact surfaces. Continued serviceability depends on structural integrity, legible identification and traceability to the vessel or facility lifting-gear records. Different variants may use different dimensions, sling arrangements or approved loads; the supplied record does not define those differences. The exact inspection and rejection criteria must therefore be taken from the manufacturer documentation and applicable lifting-gear regime.

Common issues
- corrosion or cracking at tubular frame welds
- wear or damage to lifting slings and their terminations
- deformation of the base grating or kick-plate from impact loading
- illegible or missing SWL and DNV type approval markings
- damaged or missing shock-absorbing base pad
- wear at shackle and pad-eye pin holes (elongation)
- expired or missing periodic load test certificate
Inspection checklist
- visual check of all frame welds for cracks and corrosion
- condition of grating, kick-plates and mesh panels
- sling/wire condition and current certification
- shackle and pad-eye pin wear and correct rating
- legibility of SWL/ID marking and DNV TA plate
- condition of shock-absorbing base pad
- verify current load test certificate before use
- check for structural deformation or bent members
Service intervals
| Visual pre-use inspection | before each lift |
| Detailed inspection | annually or per class/flag requirement |
| Proof load test | typically every 4 years for offshore cargo/personnel transfer baskets - confirm against the specific DNV TA certificate and applicable class rules |
| Sling/wire rope renewal | condition-based per inspection findings and certificate expiry |
Critical spares
- certified lifting slings/wire rope set
- rated and certified shackles
- shock-absorbing base pad
- SWL/ID marking plate
Safety
- dropped object during crane transfer
- uncontrolled swing or collision against installation or vessel side
- overload beyond certified SWL
- use of uncertified or mismatched slings/shackles
- structural failure from undetected corrosion or fatigue cracking
Class survey
Offshore cargo transfer baskets under DNV Type Approval require a valid load test certificate and legible SWL marking before use; class/flag surveys typically check TA certificate validity, sling condition and structural integrity as part of periodic lifting equipment surveys.

Service & Maintenance
Carry out a pre-use visual inspection and remove the item from service if cracks, deformation, severe corrosion, damaged lifting accessories or missing identification are found. Keep drains, lower structural members and welds clean enough for inspection. Examine pins, shackles, slings and pad eyes as a complete lifting system rather than inspecting the main structure alone. Periodic thorough examination, NDT and proof testing must follow the applicable flag/class/company lifting-gear regime and the maker instructions. Do not invent or apply generic wear limits; use the approved documentation for the exact acceptance criteria.
