NVR-9000S
NVR-9000S by New Sunrise Co.,Ltd.. DNV MED certificate MEDB00001R6.
Inspector Detail
▸
Common issues
- Magnetron output degradation over time, reducing detection range (magnetron-type transceivers only)
- Waveguide/antenna moisture ingress causing performance loss or arcing
- Display unit failure or software freeze requiring reboot
- Antenna motor/gearbox wear causing irregular scan speed
- Radar performance monitor fault not flagged until the annual test
- Cable/connector corrosion at the mast-head unit from salt exposure
- Clutter/interference suppression settings drifting from optimal operator settings
Inspection checklist
- Check transceiver operation, tuning, and picture quality
- Inspect antenna/scanner for physical damage, free rotation, and seal integrity
- Check waveguide or cable connections for corrosion/moisture
- Verify heading and speed input data display correctly (gyro/log interfacing)
- Test the performance monitor if fitted and record the result
- Confirm guard zone and target alarm functions operate correctly
- Check display brightness/contrast and control functions
- Verify power supply and UPS backup (if fitted) operate correctly
- Confirm correct interfacing with ECDIS/ARPA where fitted
Service intervals
| Antenna/scanner inspection (seals, bearings, drive) | annually |
| Performance monitor check | annually - statutory requirement for SOLAS-fitted radar, follow maker's manual for detail |
| Waveguide/cable connection check | annually or at each dry-docking |
| Magnetron replacement (magnetron-type only) | bauart-typical 3,000-5,000 operating hours - confirm transceiver type and interval against maker's manual |
Critical spares
- Magnetron - only for magnetron-type transceivers, confirm transceiver type before ordering
- Antenna motor/gearbox
- Waveguide gaskets/seals
- Display unit power supply/fuses
Safety
- Non-ionizing RF radiation hazard directly in front of the scanner - do not stand in the beam path while transmitting
- High voltage inside the transceiver unit (magnetron-type) - isolate power before opening
- Working-aloft hazard when servicing the antenna unit at the mast
Class survey
SOLAS-fitted radar requires annual performance testing and is checked at each safety-equipment/radio survey. Surveyors typically want to see performance monitor test records and confirmation the unit meets the IMO radar performance standard applicable to the vessel's certificate.
