CO2 Fixed Fire Extinguishing System
Kidde (now Carrier Fire & Security, formerly Walter Kidde) is the largest manufacturer of CO2 fixed extinguishing systems for ship engine rooms. CO2 total flooding has been the standard for engine room extinguishing on merchant ships since the 1950s. SOLAS requires a Fixed Fire Extinguishing System for every engine room — CO2 is the most common solution. WARNING: CO2 is lethal — the engine room must be evacuated before discharge.
