Rotary Vane Steering Gear
Rolls-Royce/Kongsberg Maritime is the world's largest manufacturer of steering gears with an estimated 25-30% market share. The Rotary-Vane design is the most modern and compact steering gear technology: 2 or 4 vanes in a cylindrical housing generate torque directly. No rudder shaft piston, no tiller arm — significantly fewer moving parts than Ram-Type. Standard on modern newbuilds of all sizes.
