Wire rope inspection: Check for broken wires, corrosion, kinks, diameter reduction, and bird-caging per ISO 4309; lubricate wire ropes and ensure pressurised lubricator (if fitted) is functional.

Boom and sheave inspection: Inspect boom structure for cracks, corrosion, and deformation; check sheaves and pulleys for wear, groove profile, bearing condition, and correct rope alignment.

Slewing ring and slew drive: Inspect slewing bearing for raceway pitting, tooth wear, and bolt elongation (torque check on critical bolts); lubricate ring gear and pinion; check slew drive gearbox oil level and condition.

Hydraulic system: Verify hydraulic oil level, pressure settings, and filter differential pressure; take oil samples (TAN, moisture, contamination); inspect hoses, cylinders, pumps, and motors for leaks or damage; check accumulator pre-charge pressure.

Structural integrity check: Non-destructive testing (NDT) of pedestal, boom foot connections, and load-bearing welds; inspect all pins, shackles, and load path components for wear or corrosion.

Load test and overload test: Annual proof load test at 100% SWL (and 110% overload test where required by classification society/ABS) with calibrated load cells; verify Robway or equivalent load monitoring system function.

Electrical and safety systems: Test all limit switches (hoist up/down, slew, luff), emergency stop circuits, anti-collision devices, and overload protection; check anemometer and lighting.

Lubrication of running gear: Grease all lubrication points on luffing sheaves, hoist drum bearings, slew ring, and drive splines; verify spline drives (main hoist, luff hoist, slew) for excessive wear or corrosion as per 5000-hour/24-month and 8000-hour/36-month schedules.
