Common failures & inspection points
Visual inspection of turbocharger for wear, sooting, abnormal vibration and blade wear on all supercharged models (L086TI, L126TI, MD196T/TI, V-Series, AD-Series, DP-Series). Check for oil leaks and sludging in compressor wheel.
For mechanical injectors (older L/MD/V-Series): pressure drop test, leaks in fuel nozzles. For electronic systems (DX12/DL06/DL08, newer models): check Common Rail pressure, measure leakage flow rate, inspect injector cables and connections for corrosion.
Inspect water heat exchanger (HX) vs. seawater cooler for corrosion damage (rust spots, pitting), sludging, algae growth. Perform pressure test. Pulsation oil cooler for seawater leaks using leak detection fluid (violet discoloration).
Measure pressure buildup in crankcase under full load (should be <100 mbar). Oil mist discharge line and collection chamber for contamination, blockage. Document flow rate at 2,000 rpm. Elevated blow-by indicates piston ring wear or cylinder sooting.
Modern Doosan propulsion engines (Tier II, L/MD/V-Series): SFOC should be 190–210 g/kWh. Older or heavily loaded engines: up to 230 g/kWh acceptable. SFOC >250 g/kWh indicates injector fouling, turbocharger defect or piston ring wear. Document SFOC with load curve (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%).
