Common failures & inspection points
Verify blade pitch angles respond correctly to control commands; check servo cylinder hydraulic pressure, fluid levels, and seal condition. Inspect inner moving pipe for pitch feedback mechanism proper function.
During dry dock, check hub oil level using fill/spill method. Verify two oil fill/drain holes (one between blades, one at tail shaft flange coupling) are accessible and functioning. Monitor for leaks.
Verify blade screw fastening torque values per model specification. For BCP 580 check 75-85 kgm, BCP 630: 100-120 kgm, BCP 800: 195-215 kgm, BCP 900: 265-295 kgm. Inspect for blade loosening, cracks, and material degradation.
Conduct bench-test or in-situ functional checks of proportional and servo valves. Verify hydraulic pressure delivery to both sides of pitch actuator. Check for proper response to pilot signals.
For feathering-equipped CPP systems, verify blade neutral angle setting to ensure low drag in feathered position. Confirm feathering function reduces resistance when propeller is locked out. Test blade movement through full pitch range.
