Common failures & inspection points

Cavitation and erosion damage on blade back and hub

Visual and tactile surface inspection every 5 years (removal of min. one blade). Search for pitting patterns, erosion scars, deformation and cracks on pressure side and root area.

Wear and play in pitch control hydraulics (servo system)

10-yearly complete maintenance: oil analysis, pressure test (90 bar), inspection of all hydraulic lines, seals and thrust rod connections. Wear parts measurement with residual service life evaluation.

Blade shape deviations and stroke wear play

3-point geometric measurement of all blade shape, hub-blade root play and pitch control head clearances. Measurements to be verified against tolerance tables and original drawings.

Vibrations and wear-induced imbalance

Shaft measurement and reverse run control. In case of abnormal vibrations: perform blade bow measurement, check imbalance calibration. Inspect bearing play and shaft deflection.

Seal and wear part aging

Every 5 years: oil change and filter cleaning. Replacement of blade sealing rings (elastomer). 10-year inspection: removal of all blades for undersurface inspection and complete seal kit renewal.
