Inspector Detail

Common issues

  • Premature fouling from under-application, applying below the specified dry film thickness
  • Blistering or adhesion failure from inadequate surface preparation or an incompatible underlying coat
  • Leaching rate falling off toward the end of the intended service life, especially during idle periods
  • Cracking or flaking from over-thick application in a single coat
  • Print-through or incompatibility staining when overcoating certain older antifouling types

Inspection checklist

  • Verify surface preparation (blast profile, cleanliness) meets specification before application
  • Check wet film thickness during application to achieve the specified dry film thickness
  • Confirm the overcoat window between coats is observed per the product data sheet
  • Inspect final dry film thickness with a calibrated gauge, including a holiday/pinhole check on critical areas
  • Check and log ambient conditions (temperature, humidity, dew point) during application
  • Visually inspect the hull at dry-docking for fouling, blistering or coating loss

Service intervals

Overcoat intervalper the product data sheet - approximately 24 hours for this product, confirm against the current TDS for the batch applied
Typical antifouling service life before renewalcommonly 24-36 months, drydocking-cycle and vessel-activity dependent - confirm against the current product data sheet
In-water hull inspection/cleaningtypically every 6-12 months, per fouling rate and flag/PSC biofouling guidance
Surface preparation (abrasive blast) before reapplicationonce per drydocking cycle, per specification

Critical spares

  • Product-matched thinner/reducer, same manufacturer and correct grade
  • Airless spray tips sized for the coating's viscosity
  • Calibrated wet film thickness / dry film thickness gauge
  • Masking materials for demarcation lines (boot-top, anodes, sea chests)
  • Tie-coat/primer compatible with the specified antifouling scheme, per the system data sheet

Safety

  • Biocide-containing antifouling requires respiratory and skin PPE during application - follow the safety data sheet
  • Solvent vapours from spray application require forced ventilation and elimination of ignition sources
  • Waste paint and rinse water are contaminated with biocide - dispose of per MARPOL Annex V and local yard regulations, never overboard
  • VOC content (around 320 g/l for this product) - confirm local port/yard emission limits before application

Class survey

The coating itself is not normally a class survey item, but class and flag increasingly expect a Biofouling Management Plan/Record Book (per IMO biofouling guidance) recording the product used, application date and DFT achieved; port state control in some regions checks for this documentation rather than the coating's physical condition.

Free of charge — send us your request for PPG / Sigma equipment. Our team checks it and replies by e-mail.

Makers and authorised dealers rarely quote marine equipment without the vessel. With these details we can check availability and prices faster; without them we may have to ask first, which can cost a few days. If you cannot share the vessel, a photo of the equipment’s rating plate does the same job — send it as a reply to our confirmation e-mail.

Frequently asked

Three things people ask first.

Is this model's data free?

Yes. Specifications, documents and service notes for this model are readable without an account. An account adds saved searches and requests, nothing is taken away.

Can you find a part for this exact model?

Yes. Tell us the manufacturer, the model and what you need — a person reads every request and replies by e-mail.

The specifications look wrong — what now?

Send us the nameplate or the correct value. We check it against the manufacturer datasheet or class-society record and update the page.
