Davit System (Lifeboat/Raft) · Lifesaving Appliances (LSA)
Crews on board rely on equipment like the Global Davit W14HC.02 to ensure safe crew evacuation and comply with maritime safety regulations. This davit is IMO-approved and holds a DNV certification, with the model number MEDB00008VW. The equipment requires regular maintenance and inspection to prevent common failures such as issues with the on-load release gear (OLRG), wire ropes, and braking systems. For instance, the OLRG must undergo an annual functional test at 1.1 times the safe working load (SWL) and a five-year dynamic test. Wire ropes need to be inspected for kinks, corrosion, and broken strands, requiring replacement if more than 10% of strands are broken over an 8D length. The braking system must be checked for wear and proper operation, and the davit structure for signs of corrosion and structural integrity. Maintenance compliance is critical, with weekly engine test runs and annual release hook servicing by approved service providers. Spare parts are available through Global Davit GmbH or authorized distribution partners with a lead time of 2-6 weeks.
