Main Engine 4-Stroke · Main Engines (4-Stroke)
Regular maintenance is crucial for the reliable operation of marine diesel engines, particularly for identifying common issues such as fuel oil contamination and fuel injector wear. MAN Energy Solutions' 14V27/38DF engine, a powerful 4-stroke dual-fuel model, is designed to run on LNG/HFO and produces 4480 kW of power at 800 rpm. This engine features a high-efficiency MAN TCR constant-pressure turbocharger system and meets IMO Tier II and Tier III emission standards with the addition of an SCR system. Key areas of concern during maintenance include fuel oil contamination, which can lead to increased soot formation and higher oil viscosity, as well as fuel injector issues such as a drop in opening pressure and broken springs. Additionally, the engine is susceptible to piston crown thermal fatigue cracking and cylinder liner wear near top dead center due to high temperatures and low oil viscosity. Crankshaft and main bearing wear can also occur if lubrication is inadequate, bearing clearance is incorrect, or oil circulation is poor.
