Kongsberg Multi functional operator station - K-Bridge
With its three modes of operation, K-Bridge MULTI provides an excellent opportunity for optimal sharing of work. Each mode complies with the respective regulations for that mode and allows the crew to set up the bridge with multiple K-Bridge MULTI stations exactly as preferred for the current manning and vessel operation. The possibility to shift command responsibility for autopilot and track control between the stations contributes further to the flexibility.

Common issues
- Display/monitor dimming or failure from heat buildup in wheelhouse consoles
- Trackball/keyboard input degradation from dust and salt ingress
- Antenna motor or waveguide faults causing loss of radar picture
- Software/firmware compatibility issues after chart or system updates
- Network/interswitch faults between bridge workstations causing loss of shared data
- Backup power/UPS failure not detected until an actual power interruption occurs
Inspection checklist
- Run the built-in radar performance monitor test and log the result
- Verify heading and speed input data is displayed correctly and alarms on loss of signal
- Test backup navigation function and independent power supply changeover
- Test all bridge alarms, including BNWAS interface if fitted
- Inspect antenna unit access points for physical damage or corrosion
- Verify software/chart update status against the manufacturer's release notes

Safety
- X-band radar transmission can present an RF exposure hazard near an energised antenna - do not work near the antenna while it is transmitting
- Transceiver units may retain high voltage after power-off - follow lock-out/tag-out procedure before opening
- Rotating antenna presents a mechanical hazard during servicing
Class survey
Radar/ECDIS installations are checked under SOLAS Chapter V for required navigational equipment. Surveys verify valid performance monitor test records, the independent ECDIS back-up arrangement required by SOLAS V/19, and that installed software is on a supported/approved version.
