Palfinger Marine (through acquisition of Harding Safety, Bergen, 2015) is the world's leading manufacturer of freefall lifeboats with an estimated 35-40% market share. Freefall boats are installed on a ramp at the stern and released into the water by uncoupling in emergencies. SOLAS mandatory on all cargo ships >85 m since 2006. The design (GRP = glass-fibre reinforced plastic) must withstand a free fall of at least 1.3× the installation height.
