Pontoon Hatch Cover
Pontoon hatch covers are the simplest and oldest hatch cover design. Loose steel panels that are set in place by crane and secured with wedge devices (cleats). Standard on older bulk carriers and general cargo vessels. No integral drive — handled by ship or harbor crane. Simple maintenance, but more labor-intensive than hydraulic systems.
