Ensuring the reliability of your radar system is crucial for safe navigation. Sika Services AG offers the Sikaflex®-621, an X-Band / S-Band radar system compliant with IMO SOLAS regulations. This electromagnetic radar has been approved by DNV. While the Sikaflex®-621 is designed for reliable performance, common failures may occur, including magnetron end-of-life after 5,000-8,000 operational hours (on magnetron models), antenna bearing motor bearing damage after 30,000+ hours, display backlight failure, heading marker alignment drift, and waveguide moisture ingress due to disrupted pressure charging. To minimize downtime, Sika Services AG recommends keeping a spare magnetron on board (on magnetron models) with a lead time of 1-3 weeks. Regular maintenance is essential. This includes magnetron replacement every 5,000-8,000 hours, annual antenna bearing lubrication, weekly performance monitor testing (an IMO requirement), and an annual inspection.
