Controllable-Pitch Propeller (CPP) · Shaft Line & Propulsion

Technical data from manufacturer or class sources · not yet verified by a person

The Wärtsilä CPP is a controllable-pitch propeller system in which the blade pitch can be changed while the propeller rotates. The system allows thrust magnitude and direction to be controlled by changing blade angle while the propulsion engine or motor can remain within a favourable speed range. A typical installation includes the propeller hub and blades, shaft-line components, hydraulic pitch-actuation equipment, oil distribution or servo components and a remote control system. It is installed at the vessel's stern as part of the main propulsion train and is integrated with the gearbox or prime mover and bridge/engine-room controls. Compared with a fixed-pitch propeller, the CPP has additional hydraulic and mechanical components inside the hub and shaft line that require leak-tightness, clean control oil and accurate pitch feedback. The exact hub type, blade geometry, pitch range, hydraulic pressure and control settings are vessel-specific; refer to the manufacturer documentation for the exact figure.

Service

Service notes.

What our service work and the manufacturer documentation say about keeping this model running.

Monitor hub/servo oil level, cleanliness, pressure, leakage and pitch response and compare bridge indication with local or mechanical reference where provided. Inspect shaft-line seals, accessible oil-distribution components, filters, pumps and control valves and analyze oil for water and wear debris. During docking inspect blades, hub, blade roots, seals and fasteners for impact, cavitation, corrosion and leakage. Pitch settings, bolt loads, clearances and overhaul criteria must come from the vessel-specific manufacturer documentation.

Replacement Parts

Spare parts notes

Carry hydraulic filters, pump and valve service kits, shaft/oil-distribution seals where practicable, pressure and position sensors, control fuses/modules and approved hydraulic oil. Major hub seals, blade seals and internal servo parts should be planned according to docking and maker recommendations.

Free of charge — send us your request for Wärtsilä equipment. Our team checks it and replies by e-mail.

Makers and authorised dealers rarely quote marine equipment without the vessel. With these details we can check availability and prices faster; without them we may have to ask first, which can cost a few days. If you cannot share the vessel, a photo of the equipment’s rating plate does the same job — attach it below or send it as a reply to our confirmation e-mail.

Frequently asked

Three things people ask first.

Is this model's data free?

Yes. Specifications, documents and service notes for this model are readable without an account. An account adds saved searches and requests, nothing is taken away.

Can you find a part for this exact model?

Yes. Tell us the manufacturer, the model and what you need — a person reads every request and replies by e-mail.

The specifications look wrong — what now?

Send us the nameplate or the correct value. We check it against the manufacturer datasheet or class-society record and update the page.
