In addition, the crew can regain safe steering control in emergencies by simply switching between two independent steering modes with a secure fallback position. Controls steering gear directly by switching a control voltage – no use of further electronics “Main” mode: CAN bus-based steering gear control system is activated, enabling the most comfortable steering gear control – allows steering of vessel with steering controls such as follow-up & non-follow-up tillers or autopilot steering Steering control is activated directly at steering position with take-over function. Alternative: a dedicated steering control position can be activated by use of steering mode operator unit (give-over function) Two independent steering modes for maximum safety:  In 'Main' mode, the CAN bus-based steering control system is activated, providing convenient and advanced functions such as take-over of steering positions. In 'Direct NFU' mode, the NFU direct tiller controls the steering gear directly by switching a control voltage - no other electronics are used. This concept ensures control of the steering at all times and supports transparent and intuitive operation, allowing the crew to make quick and safe decisions when it matters most. In the event of an emergency, the crew always has a safe fall-back position and can steer the vessel safely. System components NautoSteer AS enables cost-effective standard configurations, but also sophisticated and customised systems. Steering gear control systems are available for ships with single and double rudder, solenoid and proportional actuators, fore and aft workstations, as well as for naval vessels – where required with the integration of third-party components. Further system components are the Anschütz autopilots NautoPilot 5000 NX and PilotStar NX which are well-recognised for their superior steering performance and an extended range of functionality for safe, comfortable and efficient steering. All system components have a modular mechanical design for simple installation in consoles, frames and steering stands.  New maintenance requirement Regular check/exchange of potentiometers The follow-up handwheel and the feedback unit are important components of the follow-up control loop in steering gear control systems. Of particular importance are the potentiometers, which sense the setpoint in the case of the handwheel and the actual rudder value in the case of the feedback unit.  We have revised our maintenance specifications for selected types of our handwheels and feedback units. Click here for more information ComPilot 20 Turn-key solution for a simple, cost-efficient installation on board ComPilot 20 is a customised steering stand that combines and integrates indication and operation units according to the classification and the owner’s requirements. The modular navigation hardware design permits the functional and economical adaption to any applicable specification. Due to their design, Anschütz ComPilot 20 steering stands are suitable for free-standing arrangements as well as space-saving integrations between desk arrangements.
