The low internal velocity design of the eccentric screw pump means that the KL can transfer extremely viscous fluids containing solids effectively such as sewage and slurries, as well as shear sensitive fluids than need to maintain their structure during the pumping process. With higher flow and higher solids handling capabilities (up to 150mm) than the KB, the KL  progressing cavity pump is the ideal option for more heavy duty applications where larger volumes of fluid need to be transferred or the media has particularly large and abrasive contaminants. Whilst being closed coupled, the Azcue KL helical rotor pump has a bearing bracket which is coupled to the motor via a plug connection which is easy to service and relieves the strain on the shaft and gears, making them suitable for continuous application. This bracket also means that there is still space between the pump and motor so in the case of seals wearing out, water leaked from the pump head would not enter the motor. Other design benefits of the KL  Azcue pump is its fully encapsulated cardan shaft and joint as standard with lifetime lubricated needle roller bearings that are wear and maintenance free. Its joint connections, which have equivalent diameters, ensure a constant flow within the suction housing to prevent blockages in the pump. Features of the Azcue KL Progressing Cavity Pump: High pressure progressing cavity pump Self priming to handle difficult suction conditions Enables the free passage of solids up to 150mm Max viscosity of 200,000 mPas Bearing bracket between pump head and motor to share strain Lifetime lubricated roller bearings Equivalent diameter joint connections to prevent blockages Low pulsation, continuous flow Suction housing with large inspection and clean openings Easy to replace cartridge format seal package Available in cast iron or stainless steel Electric or hydraulic motor driven Optional hopper feed or base plate Marine Applications: Industrial Applications: Oily or dirty bilge water Black/grey water pump including toilet waste Highly contaminated water water pump Fish waste and guts Any viscous fluids Refinery oil sludge Cargo and marine fuel transfer Sewage pumping Slurries, mud and sludge transfer Highly contaminated waste water pump Food waste, organic matter and biowaste Paper and pulp Shear sensitive products Any viscous fluids and fuels Material options for the KL eccentric screw pump: Cast Iron Construction Grade Steel Stainless Steel Hardened Tool Steel FPM Silicone EPDM POM Casing X X X Flanges X X X Joint X X Rotor X X Stator X X X X Bilge Water Transfer – Progressive Cavity Pumps One of our repeat clients, a supplier of parts to the marine market, approached us with an enquiry for three pumps for their customer. These were needed for the pumping of bilge water onboard a vessel. Water collected in the bilge of a ship is typically harsh in nature due to the presence of oily sludges, waste and debris that may be contaminating it. Therefore, unlike the clean water pumps they had onboard, a typical centrifugal pump is not suitable as it is likely to clog and leak. It consists of a spiralled helical rotor (like a cork screw) that sits tightly inside a rubber stator/sleeve. As the rotor turns inside the stator, it forms a set of fixed-shaped cavities that progress along the length of the stator and force the fluid inside to move along with them as they turn. − + Why use a progressive cavity pump? Their pressure capabilities and viscosity handling is unrivalled, which means that whilst they are quite expensive in design and large in footprint, they are often selected for applications when all other pumping technologies will fail. − + What are progressive cavity pumps used for? The design is best suited to highly viscous and lubricating fluids including oils, sludges, waste matter, biomass, pastes and grape pressing that may contain very large solids, as well as pumping viscous products over long distances. − + Are progressive cavity pumps self priming? Yes! A progressive cavity pump's tight tolerances mean it has excellent suction capabilities. − + Can progressive cavity pumps handle solids in my fluid? Yes they have excellent solid handling capabilities! However, it should be noted that abrasive fluids e.g. low viscosity/water based fluids containing solids may cause shorter stator wear. − + Can these pumps be supplied with hopper? Our progressing cavity pumps can be supplied with auger feed allowing non-flowing mediums such as dry sludge and waste matter to be pumped without clogging. We can also provide liquid injection ports which are popular when liquid waste is added to dry content waste to allow it to flow. − + Can progressive cavity pumps run dry? No! Even short period of dry running can result in damange to the rotor and stator, making dry run protection a must if there is risk of this.
